Why This Story Really Matters
When I see a Social Media success story I always want somebody to put in the disclaimer that these results aren’t typical. In fact, most of the time you see these things being said, they are being said by somebody i my profession. But I am showing you this video because I think that you need to see what’s possible due to the fact that we are all connected by all of these disparate social media channels. There are applications in marketing, but I think the applications are wider than that. If you have a message that you are truly passionate about, and you want the word to get around; you don’t have to be ‘web savvy’ in order to do it. You have to be creative, determined and sometimes even a little desperate.
What This Does Not Say
What I am not saying about this is that I necessarily agree with the politics. Candidly, that is not the
point of my showing you this. First, I don’t live in Troy. So perhaps the folks who really felt strongly about the taxing situation have good reason to feel that way. Second, with politics there are ALWAYS two sides and there is never a case where one side is EEEEEVIL and the other side is Dudley Do Right. Typically there is some blame and some virtue on each side. I have a place where I blog about my politics, and this is not the place, so don’t read anything into that angle of it. If you do, you will miss the message, which is more important.
Incidentally, if you are truly passionate about your politics, you can use this as a model. I don’t think that the model cares which side of the political aisle you are on. Okay enough about that. I think you can tell, I am wary of politics right?
The Video
The video was put together by Leo Burnett and the production value was pretty high in the way that they told the story. But again, you can’t get hung up on how good the video itself is. The thing to take note of is their savvy, creative and passionate use of social media. That is the thing that you truly want to take note of.

Social Media can be used to get the word out. This was a good example of social media getting the word out.
